I don’t always like Dave or his top ten lists, but I found this one pretty comical. I just wish he threw one more on this list about Peyton leaving without shaking Brees and Shawn Payton’s hands! Maybe next time…

MMA Arm Wrestling
I’m not sure why I’ve never seen this. It’s kinda old, but I would actually watch this show if I could find it on TV or even knew what channel sponsors Ripe TV. There’s no doubt that this is somewhat MMA inspired. Maybe one day ESPN 8 (the ocho), will air all these classic fights. Why you’d want to sign up for this is beyond me. I guess I could see a lot of the meat heads that I come across daily doing it. If Hershel Walker isn’t successful in MMA, maybe he should try this out.
Aparantly there are three ways to win these matches;
1. Knock your opponent out.
2. Put your opponent’s hand on the mat.
3. Force your opponent into submission.
Fight doesn’t start till the 1:00 mark…
Conan’s Not Doin Anymore Work for NBC
The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien lasted 7 strong months, and the series finale was last night. I can safely say with Jay hosting the Tonight Show I will be getting more sleep, since I won’t be staying up to watch late night TV! It’s truly sad to see my favorite late night host get ousted the way he did, but I guess that was NBC’s mistake to make. His multi-million dollar settlement makes me not feel extremely bad for him, since he won’t really need to look for work for the rest of his life, but the way it went down should have gone differently. I hope he does get back in the TV talk show game, after it’s all said and done. I’d love to see him jump over to Fox, Comedy Central, or any other station for that matter. I’d probably even watch Conando on the Telemundo channel if that’s what ended up happening to him. I’m still not 100% clear on what happened, but it sounds like Conan wasn’t getting the ratings that NBC wanted from the show. They decided to bump him time slots, and well, we know the rest of the story. Who knows, maybe that was just a cover up for the real story or my conspiracy theory, which is that NBC’s medical staff thought the concussion he suffered was just too much for him to come back from, so they gave him the Stephon Marbury treatment benching him indefinitely and paying him. There’s probably a lot of people like my grandma that think Jay is better, but speaking for my generation, Conan is the pasty white Jordan of late night talk shows. I’m REALLY glad I made the trip to Universal lot to see at least one of his shows being taped while it was around.
NBC gave Johnny Carson the hosting gig for 30 years, and Leno got a 17 year run (plus whatever he adds on in his second term). Conan bizarrely only got 7 months to prove himself, and build a fan base. Most of my generation doesn’t really remember Carson, and pretty much only saw Leno at the helm of the Tonight Show. I feel like Conan’s comedy is geared much more towards my generation, and if NBC gave him adequate time, he would have gained enough of a following to satisfy the execs as we got older.
MCeezy had a good analogy of why our generation isn’t all that into Leno saying “Jay is more like the drunk Uncle that keeps telling jokes, and you laugh because they’re mildly funny, but it’s still older people humor.”
NBC went for the quick fix reacting hastily to Conan’s less than impressive ratings, and that reaction was bringing Leno back to his old throne that he seemed to desperately miss. Leno returning to the Tonight Show might raise NBC’s ratings, but at what cost? They no longer have a clear successor once Jay ultimately is too old to do the job. Noway Jimmy Fallon gets the gig, he’s just not the right personality or all that funny in general. Do people really buy Jay’s nice guy image anymore? I for one, won’t watch his show out of spite. I don’t buy that he didn’t have anything to do with pushing Conan off the air either. Back in 1992, you might remember when Conan started his run with NBC, Jay forced another Late Night talk show host out, David Letterman. Dave seems to have done pretty well for himself as he moved to CBS, but in these past few weeks we’ve seen that Dave is indeed still bitter about his ending with NBC. So Coco don’t be discouraged, Jay has taken away more than one job in his rein in late night TV, and it seems to have worked itself out pretty well. Let’s just hope it’s the last one! It’s good he got to throw one hell of an after party last night, I would love to toss a few Jameson’s back with him!
More Fun With Tiger
Yeah, I know that you’ve probably heard millions of Tiger jokes by now, but at our annual Christmas Eve party I was shown this Billy Dee Williams clip from the Jimmy Kimmel show that was pretty funny! If there’s one thing Tiger has given us for the holidays, it is plenty of new jokes and skits from all the great comedians out there. I guess it’s a little too late to get this fabulous plate set and meat clever for Christmas, but it would be a solid birthday gift that keeps on giving! Happy Holidays!
CSI – Gasol
In case you missed it – and let’s hope you did – here’s a short clip of Pau Gasol doing what he does best… acting. What you’re about to see hear is the aftermath of a possibly fatal car crash. Can’t tell if Pau is speaking with an American accent or not, he seems to go back and forth. Whatever the case, it appears he started a video game company with all the extra time on his hands.
Iron Mike is Finally Sorry…
I don’t know why, but this recent Oprah interview with the infamous duo of Holyfield and Tyson gets me laughing for some reason. Why is this ear biting relevant in the first place? It happened a decade ago, and you figure Holyfield has fogave and forgot by now. I guess not since he was the one that called this meeting with Oprah… I doubt Tyson thinks at all, so you know this hasn’t been a burning issue on his mind, until someone else (Holyfield) brought it up. I guess Holyfield’s child support checks are adding up quickly, so he figured Mike wouldn’t mind jumping into the news a little to possibly raise a few $$! I wonder if Iron Mike even knows he looks like a five year old on camera. It was laughably similar to Jim Zorn’s apology for the Redskins offensive performance! Both were sincere, but you just can’t help but chuckle deep down. Sorry Mike, whatever momentum you gained back by being in The Hangover, you abruptly ended that for me with this interview.
Chargers Show Up Late in Oakland
(As previously reported on playunderreview.wordpress.com)

Knee looks just fine to me Jaws...
The NFL has a knack of reminding us just how much parity there can be in a league with a firm salary cap in place (yes, I’m talking to you MLB). Even the biggest underdog can rise up and play inspired football on any given week, and with a few lucky bounces going their way, can triumph over a highly favored team. Last night’s MNF double-header on ESPN gave us two perfectly scripted dramas filled with suspense, adversity, more suspense, comedy, and full resolution in the form of multiple game winning drives. In no way did we expect the Bills to hang with the Patriots in a low scoring Game 1, but Tom Brady finally shook off the rust and, with the help of a timely fumble, capitalized twice in the final three minutes to win a nail-biter.

And after thoroughly dominating the first half what did the Raiders have to show for it? A tied ballgame at the half. It’s fair to say the Chargers played absolutely terrible in that first half, and their saving grace was two forced turnovers by the Raider O and an iffy video review that kept four extra points off the board (the ball did touch the ground as it shifted). Again, this was a tale of two different halves for the Raiders. JaMarcus Russell looked unusually comfortable in the pocket and felt little pressure, but when forced to make decisions and accurate throws in the 3rd quarter the story changed significantly. The Raiders had a much tougher time more moving the ball on the ground as the Chargers D-line finally started fighting back after getting run over in the first two quarters. They were still not able to put a lot of pressure on Russell in the passing game, and we have to compliment the play calling that allowed Russell to get rid of the ball quickly in most situations. Russell’s decision making was limited to half the field most of the time, and he connected very successfully with TE Zack Miller up the middle for 6 catches and 96 yards.

Great decision... until he actually throws it
The real problem occurred on 2nd or 3rd and long, passing situations that left much to be desired from the former #1 overall pick at QB. Russell looked great in the first half checking down to his running back after his quick reads were unavailable, but when dump-offs weren’t going to cut it the ball started flying all over the field. And I mean ALL OVER the field including the sidelines. I saw at least a half dozen passes to receivers in either man coverage or flat out wide-open, especially on the up-and-out routes to the sideline, that not only weren’t catchable but the receivers couldn’t even make an effort because they were so far off. The passes he did get close seemed to be 50/50 chances for either team, and Charger defenders dropped several passed that should have been turnovers. In the last minute of the game, Russell’s last bad throw strung out Johnny Lee Higgins on a pass that left him on the turf for 5 minutes after a jarring, legal hit applied by Chargers safety Eric Weddle.

I believe he's talking smack WHILE he throws!
Upon further review, the Raiders looked to be a real contender through their first two quarters of the season, and at times in the second half as well. But the Chargers were just too strong, even after losing two starting offense lineman and playing out of a hole the entire game. Darren Sproles proved his worth as a franchised player with LaDainian Tomlinson never really got it going against a team he usually dominates. Each had a touchdown last night, but it was a stellar 4th quarter performance by Phillip Rivers that sealed the victory for the Chargers. Rivers also proved his worth with another victory after signing a contract worth up to $93 million contract extension in the off-season. He’s gonna earn every penny if the Chargers continue to show up late to division games against big-time underdogs.
King Curtis!
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve watched more than my share of Wife Swap in the past. Now, I didn’t see this episode air, but there’s a handful of videos of this kid on youtube, and it’s quite entertaining. This kid is pretty funny, and kinda smart, in a way, but I’m guessing if I had to spend a day with him I’d probably end up hanging him from the coatrack by his underwear… little chubby son-of-a-bitch.
