Jack vs. Tiger

Jack Nicklaus is still golf’s record holder for most majors won (18). It was thought for years that Tiger would destroy Nicklaus’s record when he was racking up Majors championships at the same rate he was picking out mistresses, and honestly, I still think he will break 19 major wins. Over the years I’ve felt that Jack was slightly bitter that he knew his record of 18 championships would fall to the hands of Tiger. I even remember him saying something to the extent of I should’ve won more to make it harder for him. Today Jack had some comments about Tiger that I found pretty interesting.

Nicklaus says if Woods, with 14 major wins, doesn’t win the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach or the British Open at St. Andrews — two of Woods’ favorite courses — this year he will have a hard time catching him.

“If he does he will probably go ahead and break my record,” he said. “If he doesn’t win this year he has a tougher road to go. He will be 36 next year and time starts to go. He has to win five majors. Phil Mickelson won his fourth at the Masters, but prior to that three was the next closest (active) guy. So Tiger has to win almost two careers (of a ‘regular’ player) in the next five or six years to do that and that is a pretty big chore.”

While I agree with Jack’s thought that Tiger would dominate this year since the majors are at his favorite courses/courses he dominates, I don’t buy that it’s his last chance to get close to the record. It’s probably either head games or a reminder that it’s pretty damn hard to do what Jack did regardless of how talented you are. Jack isn’t rooting for Tiger to break his record or ever has. I know for a fact that Jack wouldn’t have said this a year ago before all the scandals broke out, because lets face it, Tiger was untouchable, and Jack would’ve just come off looking like he was a grumpy old bitter man. Now he can publicly challenge Tiger without the whole golf world going into a frenzy. I’m sure it felt good for Jack to get those thoughts off his chest!

What did Jack ever do while the PGA Tour was segregated ? But yet he’s treated as some proud bastion of greatness and as some of sort of golfing god . You tell me what he did during that era that a minority ought to feel proud about. Cause I sure as hell can’t ! He never took a stance like Player did. And it was the same with Palmer as well.

And do you feel that this sport has come a long way since segregation ?

Jack really didn’t do much for segregation, and I think they’ve come some of the way, but this game is always going to be a rich man’s sport, and let’s face it, there are a lot more rich white people. I actually think there’s more gender segregation in golf these days than racial.

It was never really a rich man’s sport but societal values deemed it that way to begin with. In terms of there being gender segregation Sorenstam did more to bring it into perspective . And we can all remember the rather sexist remark from Vijay Singh . This is the same mutha’ fuc_er who’d been caught cheating on Asian Tour event early in his career and lied about it. He above all people considering the obstacles placed in his way when he first became a professional ought to know better. But instead he comes across as an ignorant buffoon and a misogynist ! What an a_shole !

The sport itself has never done enough to integrate minorities at all ! And it still doesn’t do enough and that is in spite of the asinine statements made by Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem . It’s all bulls_it to begin with !

The point is mute Woods will surpass Nicklaus’ record but he may not do is match the number of top ten finishes that he had in the Majors .

Is it me but did someone use a defibrillator on this Magic team last night ? They too it to the Celtics big time and laid a can on them. Now it’s all to play in the two remaining games of this series .

Things aren’t exactly looking bright for the Lakers in their series against the Suns. Think Phil has Michael Vick’s number on speed dial as they’re now involved in a dogfight ?

Woods hasn’t changed at all since his problems came to light. He’s still the self serving ass he came across as being the post frenzy barrage .

Do you find the NBA & NHL postseason simply boring and when you ask the girlfriend about being intimate she looks at you as if you’ve gone mad. What are you suppose to do ? No self gratification is out of the question as it can make you go blind.

This is one reason why common sense will never prevail inside the Raiders’ front office !

    Raiders file grievance against Russell

The Oakland Raiders have filed a grievance against former quarterback JaMarcus Russell(notes) seeking repayment of $9.55 million, the team confirmed Thursday.

The grievance is based on the contention by the Raiders that the contract was changed at one point during Russell’s three-year stint with the organization and that he’s not allowed to keep all of the money he had collected prior to his May 7 release. Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft, was guaranteed $32 million as part of a six-year contract reportedly worth $68 million

“We have filed a grievance against JaMarcus Russell and that’s all we’re going to say at this time,” Raiders attorney Jeff Birren said.

Part of the guaranteed $32 million was originally in the form of salary advances for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. A portion of those salaries is in question, according to the grievance.

“The money in question was fully guaranteed. That is why JaMarcus was forced to hold out and miss all of training camp as a rookie,” said Eric Metz, one of Russell’s two agents. “The Raiders know that and this is our only comment.”

Russell will be represented in the grievance by the NFL Players Association.

    ============================================

They’re going to go after JaM-Nut for money knowing full well that he’s done nothing to break the original tenets of the contract. And one wonders why no one takes this organization seriously ? They’ll be spending tens of thousands of dollars for what ? To show what a morons they’ve working in their front office ?

The NFLPA will have a “field day with this” and “run rings” around the Raiders .

If Davis is that hard up for cash then why doesn’t he one again shake down the city of Oakland. After all he’s done it to LA !
