What Would Timmy Tebow Do (WWTTD) Part I

With the Cam Newton fiasco going on, it made us come up with a new feature and perspective on the blog called What Would Tebow Do? The first installment is about some athlete’s past and present that had accepted money or cheated in one way or another during their collegiate career. Since we aren’t exactly on the up and up ourselves, we thought channeling our inner Tebow to come up with responses or ways these athlete’s should have faced it/done it in the first place. I think this is going to be the first of many What Would Tebow Do posts? Oh, and did I mention that Tim Tebow talks in the third person? Well, now I did.

Tebow on Cam Newton – Of all the allegations that have flown around over the years, this one is probably my favorite. We’ll assume everything is true since rumors don’t just start from nothing. While I don’t condone him or his dad asking for money, and breaking one of the Ten Commandments, I do condone what he was using it for. Saving a house of the lord that is in shambles is a very forgivable sin, and if I could speak for God (which I can at times), I’d hand him my blessings and move on. The only way Tim Tebow lets this one slide is if Cecile Newton is following the other nine commandments.

Tebow on Reggie Bush – Timmy knows that a lot of people think Reggie took the money from an agent, so his family could buy a house. I doubt that was the case though. I know he really just wanted to tell his WWE Diva, Eve Torres and Kim Kardashian “just throw it in the bag!” You don’t get these kinds of high profile celebrity relationships when you’re just a college player with no money. He needed the cash to get the ladies, and that is something Tebow just can’t stand for! Sex before marriage is a sin, and the money he received didn’t help him towards marriage. What would Tebow have done you may ask? He would have impressed the ladies with his god given abilities!

Tebow on former teammate Maurkice Pouncey – What the hell man?!? I bring this program to the pinnacle, and you go off and get paid by an agent while we are about to go to battle in the biggest game of the season?!? Okay maybe not the biggest, because we lost to Bama, but it was the last game in the most storied college career ever… MINE! Sure you may have helped me to that storied career snapping me the ball and blocking every play. I hope it was worth it, because if you waited until after the game this wouldn’t have mattered at all, plus you were picked seven spots ahead of me, why did you need to get paid early? Did you need lap-band surgery before the game or something!?!

Tebow on suing EA Sports – Lots of former college athletes want some money from EA sports, because they were good college players and EA copied their movements and mannerisms into their video game using everything about them, but only recognizing them by their number. I like video games, and played with myself lots of times while leading my Gators to multiple national championships. I didn’t want money from them though. All I really wanted was for my God given talents to provide for me later in life, and low and behold just after signing with the Broncos I sold the most jerseys in the NFL for any rookie EVER! The moral to the story is, let God show you the way.

Karma’s Bite

I am a strong believer in karma, and the majority of the time, karma works against me, but in the case of the first two weeks of the NFL season, it actually works in my favor.

Why you ask?  Because the Minnesota Vikings are 0-2.

Brett Favre has never been bitten in the butt, he’s never gotten what he deserved for the circus-like soap opera of a show he puts on every single off-season.  I’m going to retire.  I’m not.  This is it for me.  I love the game too much.  And on and on and on.  It’s disgusting.  Finally the football gods have had enough, and they’ve inflicted karma onto the divo.  The Vikings are 0-2, and yes they can talk about how they won the division two years ago after dropping their first two, but it ain’t happening again.  Not with Favre and the Scarlett Letter “K” he has sewn on to his jersey.  What I’m loving the most out of Favre, is the fact that he’s absolutely not having fun right now.  The media, NFL commentators, and all of his groupies always mention how he is a grown man kid, whose love for the game is similar to a child who loves his Legos.  Like he’s some innocent, wide-eyed infant.  You name me a kid who holds an entire organization and it’s fan base, in fact an entire league hostage.  Kid my ass.  Well watching Favre this season, it doesn’t look like he’s having fun at all.  Which means I’m having crazy fun!

I had high hopes for my San Francisco 49ers, and since they’re going nowhere fast, watching Brett Favre perform like a worn out pair of Wranglers jeans is a great consolation prize.  The thread is going to rip at any moment.

If Favre wins the gold medal in receiving karma, than Reggie Bush gets the silver.  I like Reggie Bush the player.  He lucked into a great situation because Sean Payton has done a brilliant job utilizing Bush in different formations to get him out in the open field.  Bush will never be the USC Bush in the NFL, but he’s definitely a weapon now.  But while at USC, he cheated, plain and simple.  And when the eligibility of his Heisman trophy was put into question, he returned the award, yet stated it was not an admission of guilt.  Seriously Bush?  Well he broke his leg in Monday Night’s win over the 49ers, it’s not career ending or anything, but he will miss a significant amount of time this season.  Karma strikes again.

So although I’m not karma’s bff or anything, as I’ve had my fair share of “getting my just desserts” … I’m glad to see that karma isn’t prejudice, and anyone can fall victim to its bite.

Other Guys Who Should Give Back Their Heisman

I’m still not sure what the purpose of making Reggie Bush give back his Heisman is. It just reminds me of when the sucky kid doesn’t get picked on the playground, so he throws a fit and takes his ball home. Perhaps Bush received illegal benefits, but did it really give him an advantage on the field? He would’ve won that Heisman wherever he played, and probably by a more lopsided vote, since he surely split some votes with teammate Matt Leinart. Mack Brown thinks Vince Young should get the award. Are we sure his decision to go to Texas was all on the up and up? Sure, he’s from Houston, so why wouldn’t he go play for Texas? But then again, why not A&M, or Houston, or LSU? Reggie Bush was from San Diego, who’s to say he wouldn’t have ended up at USC anyway? Look, I can name quite a few college athletes who received illegal benefits, and some didn’t even go on to a professional career in their respective sports. The point is, the NCAA can keep targeting USC all they want, e.g. Bush, OJ Mayo, but clearly this goes on at every university in the country. I wonder how long until they cry foul on Demar Derozan. It’s common knowledge he went to SC because they let his buddy Lil Romeo tag along. This whole mess has got me thinking about other players who went to a certain university, where there’s no way there wasn’t foul play. I know they don’t have Heismans per se, but you get the idea.  Let’s start pointing some fingers…..

JAMARCUS RUSSELL, LSU: I know it’s not too far fetched for a kid from Alabama to choose LSU, but we all know what kind of guy Russell is, there’s no way he didn’t go play for the highest bidder. Why would he choose LSU over other SEC schools like Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, or Tennessee? Les Miles and the boosters surely offered him the iciest #2 platinum chain of all the competition.

Doin Work Fantasy Football 2009 Mock Draft

The most comprehensive fantasy football mock draft this side of espn or yahoo.   Here’s who we’d pick and why….

ROUND ONE

#1 Drafting Under the Influence – RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings

This isn’t even a decision in my mind. He’s a threat every play to go the distance, and even when it looks like he’s stuffed he can break off a Barry Sanders-esque escape. Nobody is surprised when he puts up 200 yards and a score or two! His skill set is off the charts and better than every other RB in the draft. He vowed to come back this season bigger and faster, definitely scary for any of the competition he’s about to run over!

#2 TD’s Are My Forte – RB Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons

Love having the 2nd pick, Turner is a no-brainer choice for me here. Atlanta has a dynamic offense which makes keying the run more difficult, and we know what Turner is capable of doing. I project him not only matching his offensive numbers last season, but slightly increasing them. Until I see Maurice Jones-Drew in a full time role, he doesn’t pass Turner here. Should be interesting to see who is left on the board on the way back in the 2nd round.

#3 Who Shot Plax? – RB Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans

Titans have always been built as a run-first offense, as  Conservative is Jeff Fisher’s middle name.  Don’t quote me on that, could be Fred for all I know.  As the Titans continue to employ a sub-par passing game, the two back system will flourish, and Johnson will receive the bulk of the carries on 1st and 2nd down.  I was impressed with his receiving game as well last year, a great target with much better than average hands, shiftiness, and speed.

#4 White Russians For Breakfast – RB Deangelo Williams, Carolina Panthers

Looking at my options on the board, I’m intrigued by both DWill and MJD.  I’m a bit hesitant about SJax, LT, and BWest in their current situations, Sjax on a shitty team, LT running close to empty (?) and Westbrook having surgery on his foot.  I like Deangelo because they looked for extra ways to get the ball in his hands in the Wildcat and I think he’ll have a decent receiving year.  A few vultured goalline carries will be made up in other areas like long runs and perhaps a passing TD or two this year.

#5 No More Madden For Me – RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars

I wasn’t happy about sitting at five, you typically watch the 3 sure fire running backs get picked, and are left with about 5 different players who all have there pros and cons (this years crop includes Steven Jackson, LT, Westbrook, Gore, and Portis). But holy smokes does a gift fall to me with Maurice Jones-Drew. With the featured role in the back field all his, and the experts putting him at 2 at worst 3 on there boards, I feel like I get a big time break here. More then likely I will be looking to match a catch happy MJD with a top tier wideout in the next round. Continue reading
