Some Nielson Ratings came out telling us the story on the popularity of the first three weeks of baseball. Low and behold the Giants and A’s were found to be the “sentimental” favorites in thier ratings. In scores out of a possible 5 the Giants registered in first place at a 4.5, and the A’s were 2nd place at 4.2. The scoring for this Nielson rating was based on the amount of “positive” and “negative” things that people are saying online about the teams. I’m sure this has to do with the simple fact that both teams were leading their divisions going into that week. The fans and media are fickle, so I don’t see this lasting all year, but it was cool to see that 20% of things said about the Giants were positive, and 18% of things said about the A’s were positive with only 1-2% of negative things being said about either team. The rest was neutral. I’m sure there’s some more “negative” posts on the A’s for this coming week that will be bringing their score back down with multiple injuries and a losing streak, although I’m not sure if they count that as neutral or negative. I was just happy to see a non-doin work article that put the Giants and A’s #1, and #2.

While both the A’s and Giants are said to be in contention within their respective divisions . Then hopefully the fans will turn out in droves to support the teams at their ballparks. The fans have got to be on high at AT&T Park when Lincecum is pitching.
And it has to be the same for the fans of the A’s when they’ve a home game against a divisional rival at The Coliseum !
This baseball season ought to be something special unless you’re an Orioles or Pirates’ fan that is . Can it get any worse for either of those two ball clubs ?

Well, I have my doubts about the A’s filling up the coliseum. They were last in league attendance last year and are around there for the beginning of this year… I hope they both do well, but I could easily see a scenario that has both of them missing the playoffs!

And in the Tampa Bay area the division leading Rays struggle to get 10-15,000 for a damn ballgame. The only time the place is at Tropicana Field is when either Red Sox or Yankees are in town. But if they should happen to have a golden oldies night with some 70’s or 80’s music icon they might just get above 20,000 in the place.
That’s how bad it’s become within the area.
At least that’s not the case with the Marlins as Loria limits his expectation with regard to that criteria and attendance at the ballpark . Once the new venue is open then there’ll be a spike in attendance.

It sucks for the Rays. I feel for them, since they are somewhat in the same boat as the A’s. We both need a new “hi-tek” stadium, and it doesn’t sound like it’s happening very fast… I think the A’s averaged about 12K last year, I’m sure the Rays were pretty close to that as well… The MArlins will be stoked to actually play in front of a large home crowd in the near future… I’m going to have to write a post about this…

Word just in Mel Kiper is pis_ed off at the GM’s in the NFL ? He’s unhappy that his bosom buddy Jimmy Claussen wasn’t taken higher in the draft ahead of Tim Tebow . I thought that ESPN has a “don’t ask don’t tell policy” as it relates to same sex relationships ? Poor Mel Kiper just like Rodney Dangerfield he simply can’t get no respect anywhere from anyone . I wonder why ?

Haha, I thought Kiper was saving himself for McShay!!! I guess he’s like Tiger in that nothing can keep his sexual apetite at bey. Claussen should be happy where he landed, and why Kiper would get butt hurt is beyond me!

I’m not too sure what to make of McShay ! He could swing for the fences or he could be on “the down low” like Ricky Martin was .
Breaking news from Chris Mortensen of ESPN Brett Favre has yet to come to a decision concerning his imminent return to the NFL . This is now what ESPN will continue to consider newsworthy ’til the preseason starts . Screw that I think I’ll take up scrabble or sudoku once again !

Kiper has a man-crush on Lil’ Jimmy Claussen. And I’m sure he’d no doubt like to insert something into Jimmy to make him feel good !
The rest of the morons at ESPN are Favre apologists . So what do you make of that ?

The real problem for the franchise isn’t so much the local politicians but the complete intolerance being shown by Selig and MLB hierarchy . That’s the real problem that the franchise now has. Can anyone explain to me what real benefits Selig has brought to the game other than the playoff and wildcard format ?
2008 Selig gets paid $17.5 million and no doubt in ’09 it was considerably higher. Now comes 2010 and what’s the likelihood he’ll be amongst the highest paid in all of the game including the likes of the elite players in the game ? There’s something inherently wrong there but I’ve heard no fan or even baseball writer have the guts to bring it up. Other than myself that is !
