It doesn't a degree in calculus to figure this crap out concerning the voting in baseball's Hall of Fame. And as far as I'm concerned the BBWAA lacks real credibility when it comes adjudicating the players. On the veterans' side they tend to get it right more often than not.

This time with Dawson they were merely righting an egregious wrong as he should've been enshrined a long time ago.

Wow, I think the guy who commented on your last years post did a better job than me in making a case! I seriously doubt he'll ever get in. They need to change the voting so there's at least two a year getting in. One guy, Andre Dawson gets in. Lame... I'm guessing his enshrinement day will be Andre Dawson day in Chicago!

Great article. We had some commenters get pretty fired up over Raines last year at this time. I'm not sure what it is that makes Raines get overlooked. Probably character like you said, maybe because he played the vast majority of his career in Montreal. His stats also went into a pretty odd decline after he turned 27.

Since he's only getting 22-25% of the vote, I can't help but think most voters are just dismissing him without much thought. He definitely belongs in the discussion more than he is at present. Whether he actually deserves the Hall...well, if he gets in I'd be fine with it, if he doesn't I'd be okay, too.

The longer guys like Raines are still on the ballot the harder it becomes for them to enter into Cooperstown. With each fresh new crop of what the BBWAA deems are more worthy candidates the less likely it will be for him. See what has happened with Andre Dawson over the years.
